FAQs

What kinds of problems or issues can you help with?

I can offer help with anxiety, depression, stress and relationship problems (divorce, separation, friendship, infidelity, conflict or confrontation). I work with clients experiencing issues related to identity, sexuality, gender, neurodiversity and disability, and with clients who are experiencing (or have experienced) abuse (sexual, physical or emotional), neglect, bullying, or harassment. I also offer help with suffering that has emerged following loss (bereavement, terminal diagnosis, displacement, miscarriage, infertility) and I have experience of working with clients who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and/or have previously attempted suicide.

Are you supervised?

Yes, as per the BACP ethical framework, I receive regular supervision to assist me as I work with you.

Will what I share with you remain confidential?

A high degree of confidentiality between you, myself and my supervisor will be maintained at all times. The only time I would consider breaking confidentiality would be when I believed that harm might come to you or someone else, (a duty of care/safeguarding issue) or if there is police involvement in your current situation.

How long does each therapy session take?

Each session lasts for 50 minutes and begins on the hour. We would agree to meet on the same day at the same time each week or fortnightly.

What happens in our first session?

We would begin by talking about what brings you to me and how you feel I might be able to help. I would ask some questions about your current situation and about your background. I would give you the opportunity to ask any questions and at the end of our first session you can decide if you wish to continue working together.

How many sessions will I be offered?

It is entirely up to you how long we work together. We would review the work regularly. If you felt the work was coming to an end, I would ask you to give at least two week’s notice so we could work towards that ending together.

Where does the therapy take place?

I work from The Wilbury Clinic in Hove and from The Elm Grove Therapy Rooms in Hampden Park (6, Elm Grove, BN22 9NW). I can also work with you online using Teams.

How does online counselling work?

Sessions online do not have to differ significantly from in-person sessions. It would be important for you to be in a quiet place where you would not be disturbed and confidentiality would be maintained. We would work with the cameras on. I do not conduct telephone sessions.

What happens if a session needs to be cancelled?

If you cannot attend a session you are required to give a minimum of 24 hours notice. If sufficient notice is not given you will still need to pay for the session. If I have to unexpectedly cancel a session, I will also endeavour to give you 24 hours notice. I appreciate that emergencies do happen and there may be occasions when giving notice is simply not possible. When I take holiday I will give you at least two weeks notice, I would ask you to do the same with regard to your own holidays.

How much do you charge?

I charge £60 per session. Payment is made weekly before your session by an online transfer. You can choose to pay monthly in advance if you prefer. I may have a concessionary space available - please contact me for availability.

Please get in touch by email if you have any further questions.
